Tesco brings festive cheer to local children
Children staying at the Temporary Accommodation Service in Mansfield have received an early festive surprise this Christmas thanks to Santa, and a little help from Tesco.
The store on Chesterfield Road wanted to show support for the residents in the Accommodation, which is a service provided by Mansfield District Council and temporarily houses people who are homeless, by making their Christmas party, on Friday 19th December, extra special.
Prior to the party 32 children, from toddlers to teenagers, were asked to write a Christmas list to Santa, and thanks to Tesco's home delivery service, Santa was able to arrive in time for the party to deliver gifts to all of the children.
Councillor Heather Henshaw, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Mansfield District Council, commented: "All children love Christmas but for children staying in temporary accommodation during the festive season, it can be a traumatic time. I would like to send my thanks to Tesco for ensuring that these children will receive a visit from Santa and a party they can remember this Christmastime."
Paula Easom, manager of the Temporary Accommodation Service said: "The children were really excited about Santa's early stop off and even more so when they received the gift they had asked for. It was great to see all the children, parents and staff come together at the party and be able to celebrate the Christmas period."
The supermarket made sure the party was a success by supplying a dazzling Christmas tree, decorations and most importantly at all Christmas parties, a festive feast.
Tony Fletcher, Tesco corporate affairs manager added: "We really wanted to spread some festive cheer amongst the community this Christmas, especially as the current climate is making life more difficult to be able spend on our friends and family. Everyone at the store was eager to join in; we even had to hold 'X-factor' style auditions to find our perfect Santa."
