Thank ghoul very much!
Halloween fundraisers, Sue Wills and Carol Stares got a shock of their own when Mansfield District Council's Deputy Mayor, Councillor Roger Sutcliffe dropped in to award them a special commendation for their unpaid community work.
Sue and Carol are Secretary and Chairman of the Peafield Carnival and Play scheme – free events they help to organise for the local community in Mansfield Woodhouse.
And in recognition of their work and that of their colleagues, Councillor Sutcliffe dropped in on their latest 'fun'-draiser – a spooky Halloween party for local youngsters – to present them with a special Mayor's Commendation from Mansfield District Council.
The Halloween event – which featured houses in Bryony Avenue decked out with spooky decorations, Halloween games, a Witch's grotto and 'gruesome grub' – was enjoyed by hundreds of children and raised almost £100 towards the 2009 Peafield Carnival fund.
Coun Sutcliffe said of the commendation: "Sue, Carol and the team put a huge amount of their own time into organising events and activities for the community on the Peafield Lane estate and thoroughly deserve this accolade – they are true unsung heroes.
"The carnival, summer play schemes and Halloween event help to bring the community together and are enjoyed by hundreds of children and adults alike.
