You spin me right round...

Residents and visitors to Mansfield will be able to see the district from a whole new perspective - from the top of a giant Ferris wheel in the Market Place.

The wheel, which is 35 metres high and seats a total of 144 people at any one time, will be officially launched by Paralympic gold medallist, Sam Hynd, on Friday 10 October at 6pm.

The wheel will be in Mansfield Market Place until 8 November.

The wheel is transported by four articulated trailers and is erected with its own 25 ton crane. It will take seven days to assemble it.

The wheel will be open daily until 8 November when it will take a further seven days to dismantle it.

The ride is suitable for people of all ages and a ride will take around five minutes – affording breathtaking views of the town centre and the many places of interest across the district.

Rides will cost £3 for adults and £2 for under-fives.

Mansfield's Executive Mayor, Tony Egginton, commented: "I am thrilled that Mansfield is following in the footsteps of both London and Nottingham in housing a giant wheel in the Market Place."

"The attractions have been overwhelmingly popular in these cities and I am positive that this will be the same here in Mansfield."

"This offers our residents the rare opportunity to see their district from the sky and for visitors to see from this perspective the many and varied attractions Mansfield has to offer."

"The wheel will be open for four weeks offering plenty of opportunities for people to have a ride – and to go home and tell their families and friends!."
