90 not out for Clifford!
It may have been a nineteen year old that recently put Mansfield on the sporting map - but one special ninety year old is proving that sport in the district is not only for the young.
Celebrations were in full flow at Oak Tree Leisure Centre as Clifford Mills, one of the founder members of the Centre's 50 plus club celebrated his ninetieth birthday on Friday 19 September.
Clifford is the oldest member of the group, which has been running for 22 years and often cycles to the Centre to take part in the group's weekly aerobics sessions before enjoying a game of table tennis.
On hand to celebrate was Mansfield District Council's Vice-Chairman, Councillor Mick Barton, who presented Clifford with a certificate entitling him to the free use of Mansfield District Council's leisure facilities.
Clifford commented: "I really don't feel as though I'm 90, I only feel about 50."
"It is wonderful to celebrate this auspicious occasion with so many friends."
"It is unbelievable that the club and the District Council have gone to so much trouble, I can't believe it!"
Councillor Barton added: "It has been wonderful to celebrate Clifford's special day here."
"The 50 plus club have been running for 22 years and they are an inspiration to us all."
"It is fantastic to see Clifford so fit and well at 90 years of age and long may he continue to use our facilities."
