Consideration is the key
Bullock Construction, contractors employed to carry out work under Mansfield District Council's Decent Homes scheme, have been given top marks in a top industry initiative.
The Considerate Constructors scheme is intended to improve the image of construction by ensuring that constructors are also good neighbours.
Bullock Construction were assessed on the work carried out on 900 homes in Mansfield Woodhouse, part of the Decent Homes programme, which aims to ensure that tenants in council properties are warm, weatherproof and have reasonably modern facilities.
Bullock scored high marks in every category demonstrating a 'high level beyond compliance' in all categories of the assessment. The main three areas are:
- The environment – specific projects should do all they can to reduce any negative effect they have on the environment. They should work in an environmentally conscious, sustainable manner.
- The workforce – registered sites should provide clean, appropriate facilities for those who work on them. Facilities should be comparable to any other working environment.
- The general public – registered sites should do all they can to reduce any negative impact they may have on the area in which they are working. Sites should aim to leave a positive impression on those they affect.
The firm were also praised for visiting local schools and ensuring the children were aware of the hazards on building sites.
Further inspections will be carried out twice yearly to ensure the high standards identified are maintained.
Councillor Heather Henshaw, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Mansfield District Council, commented: "I am delighted for Bullock Construction on being assessed as Considerate Constructors."
"The feedback I have received from council tenants, who have benefited under the Decent Homes programme has been very positive and this assessment is a clear indication of the high standards employed by Bullock and my thanks go to them for work working so considerately in our tenants' homes."
