On your marks, get set... park!
Mansfield's town centre car parks have been recognised as excellent by the British Parking Association.
The ten Mansfield District Council run car parks in the town centre awarded Park Mark status are:
- Walkden Street
- Four Seasons
- Station Road
- Toothill Road
- Church Lane
- Water Meadows
- Grove Street
- Robin Hood Line
The car parks are assessed to high standards annually by accredited police staff to ensure the safety of users.
This includes ensuring that each car park has lighting of a good standard and surveillance is in place to reduce the opportunity for offenders to commit crime, that there are systems in place to monitor and record crime and that regular staff patrols are carried out.
The chances of being the victim of crime in one of Mansfield's town centre car parks are more than one in 63,000. There were 22 recorded incidents in 2007 out of 1.4 million car park users.
Both of Mansfield's multi-story car parks are attended full time and regular patrols take place on the surface car parks seven days per week.
The judges also check that the car parks are user friendly with a clearly defined boundary and that there are designated routes and entrances/exits to ensure the safety of motorists.
Councillor Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at Mansfield District Council, commented: I am delighted that Mansfield District Council's town centre car parks have again received the Park Mark status."
"This is a clear indication of the high standards to which our Town Centre Operations unit work and my thanks go to them."
"I hope this sends out the message to residents and visitors to Mansfield that our car parks are safe and user-friendly – and I would encourage anyone to come into the town centre and use them."
