Peafield's Green Flag glory!
Peafield Park has become the third of Mansfield District Council's parks and open spaces to be given a prestigious Green Flag award.
This is the first time that Peafield Park has been awarded Green Flag status; joining Titchfield Park and Carr Bank Park, which both received Green Flags last year.
Peafield Park is situated on Litton Road in Mansfield Woodhouse. The park, which was opened in 2004, takes its name from Peafield Lane which, many years ago, was a main coach road from Mansfield to the Great North Road.
Facilities on offer at the park include:
- Toddler play area
- Junior play area
- Multi sports pitch
- Skate park
- Bike track
- Wildflower meadow areas
- Trails and walks
- Wooded area
- Sensory garden
The District Council's Parks department are supported by the Friends of Peafield Park; who assist with school activities, including: environmental games, creating paintings and drawings, bird feeders and bird cakes; carrying out regular litter picks of the area; assisting with preparations for Mansfield in Bloom and generally acting as eyes and ears of the park on behalf of the Parks staff.
They are also organising the Peafield Carnival on Saturday 23 August.
Titchfield Park is situated in Mansfield town centre and is home of the Summer in the Streets Party in the Park event.
Titchfield Park has held Green Flag status for the past two years. The Maun Conservation group helps us to care for the park, as well as two neighbouring Local Nature Reserves, and carry out a variety of practical tasks, events and school visits.
Carr Bank Park retains the Green Flag status it has held for several years.
Carr Bank is divided into areas based upon the original design of the park. These areas include; rose gardens, play area, games area for football, basketball and tennis, pavilion, performance area, bowling green, wild flower meadow, orchard and parkland lawns.
The park is also the setting for residents to view the display created for the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show (this year held on 23-27 July).
Councillor Eddie Smith, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council, commented: "I am delighted that Peafield Park has become the third Green Flag award winning park in the Mansfield district."
"I am also very pleased that Titchfield and Carr Bank parks have retained their Green Flags for another year."
"These awards are a testament to the work carried out by Mansfield District Council's Parks Department and also the voluntary effort made by members of our Friends groups, to whom I offer my thanks for the work they have all carried out in the last year to help make this possible."
The flags will be given at an awards ceremony, held in Liverpool this Thursday (24 July).
