Local limo's number one licence
A limousine operated by 5 Star Limos of Mansfield Woodhouse has been granted the first licence under the new Special Event Vehicle Scheme.
Under the scheme, all novelty and special event vehicles are subject to the same rules as Private Hire vehicles; and are required to be licensed with Mansfield District Council, who will carry out safety inspections on the vehicles and suitability checks on their drivers – including Criminal Records Bureau checks.
John Allsebrook of 5 Star Limos, the proud possessor of plate number one, says: 'this gives the customer confidence and piece of mind when they book a limousine and that they are travelling in a limousine that has passed the most stringent of tests to be allowed on our roads.'
Anyone wanting to hire a vehicle for a special occasion should ask the company if they have been licensed by the local authority or by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA). All vehicles should have a licence plate on the rear of the vehicle and the driver should be displaying a photo identification driver's badge; just ask to see them.
Mr Allesbrook advised, 'when booking a limousine, always make sure the company you are booking holds these licences and plates.'
Other licensed vehicles include a novelty Fire Engine and a Scooby-Doo Play Bus, both based in Warsop.
All vehicle operators within the area, operating a vehicle with eight seats or less, are legally required to be licensed by Mansfield District Council. Any businesses and drivers without a licence may face prosecution, with significant fines and costs.
Councillor Mick Barton, Chairman of the Licensing Committee said: "Congratulations to 5 Star Limos and the other companies who have passed the stringent tests and have been granted these licences."
"These licences will ensure that members of the public are safe when hiring these vehicles."
"I would urge any other special event vehicle operators to come forward as soon as possible because not having one of these licences could invalidate their insurance."
