Funding boost for nature reserve's 'friends'

A community group's work to maintain and develop a local nature reserve has been given a boost with £800 of funding.

The Friends of the Hermitage local nature reserve have secured the £800 through the Mansfield West Area Assembly and the conservation charity, BTCV.

The Hermitage

The funds will enable the group to buy stationery, tools, clothing and equipment to get them started in helping to manage the site. The group already works closely with Mansfield District Council and ward councillors.

The 'Friends' will be working on site on Saturday 16th February cutting back overgrown bushes and shrubs which are encroaching onto the paths. If anyone is interested in coming along or joining the group, please contact the Parks Development Officer at Mansfield District Council on 01623 463510.

Ruth Norman, Secretary of the friends group said, "We are really pleased to have secured the funding, to give us a kick start on looking after the site. We hope to see the site develop into a cleaner, safer and more user friendly area"
