Grant in Aid for Promotion of the Arts
Grants are available for assistance with productions, exhibitions and publications and for assistance with the purchase of equipment. The annual deadline for applications is the 1st April for financing in the current financial year.
Revenue Grants - Assistance with Productions, Exhibitions and Publications - Grants are available to support groups based in the District in staging performances, exhibitions and publications.
Amount: The minimum grant available is £500.00, there is no set maximum but this will vary according to the type of organisation, the service provided and our budget limitations.
Capital Grants - Assistance with the Purchase of Equipment - Grants are available to assist groups in purchasing essential equipment.
Amount: Grants are available up to a maximum limit of £500.00 and if successful would be paid upon receipt of paid invoices for goods/services from your organisation. Where however, funding is being sought from various providers before purchase, funding approval letters from all other providers would be required before our payment would be made, together with a copy of the paid invoice, immediately after payment.
Capital & Revenue General Criteria
- Only established organisations will be grant aided
- No organisation will be grant aided more than once in any financial year
- All applicants must submit an independently audited balance sheet, statement of account or, depending on the circumstances, relevant financial information before consideration of their application. We may also require access to your organisation to inspect your records including books of account.
- All applicants, where relevant, must include details of membership numbers within the District, along with current subscription levels.
- Projects, for which provision would normally be made through the Council or other Local Authority funded organisations, will not be grant aided.
- Retrospective applications for grant in aid in respect for specific events will not be grant aided.
- Where an organisation receives a grant in any financial year, the previous year's award will be taken into consideration.
- Grants are awarded on the condition that they are only used for the purpose intended. If the grants are otherwise applied you will be liable to repay the grant to us.
- We do not provide grant in aid to fund repairs to church owned premises or support religious activities unless the premises are of architectural importance and are treated as qualifying for a historic buildings grant.

- a letter of acknowledgement will be sent within 7 days of receiving your application
- when considering an application, the letter of acknowledgement will contain details of when decisions will be made
- all applicants will be dealt with fairly and equitably under the specified criteria
- all applicants will receive written notification of the success or otherwise of their application
Application Decisions
- Grants over £500 are submitted to the earliest possible meeting of the Council's Cabinet for consideration
- Grants up to £500 are decided by the Head of Financial Services under delegated powers and the Portfolio Holder for Resources.
